Toms shoes
have recently arrived in Hungary, so I’m unspeakably happy. The shoes are not
just simply beautiful, unique and extra comfortable, but we can share our happiness
with those who can’t these things.
The company was founded in 2006 by an American entrepreneur, Blake Mycoskie. The
story began in Argentina, when he started doing a volunteer work. He saw
that most of the children were running barefoot thought the streets. He noticed that it's a really big problem (and also dangerous) in the developing countries.
Then he had that idea that he would sell a pair of shoes, than he would give
another pair for the young children in these countries (mostly in Argentina)
another one for free.
The company started selling shoes in 2006, and they sold 10,000 pairs in the
first six months. The company’s name (TOMS) comes from the word “tomorrow”, because
the project’s title was “Shoes for Tomorrow”.
Nowadays, Toms
is a worldwide company and they also sell other things too, not just shoes
(for example bags and eyewear).
They also started working with organisations, thus they can help with giving clean
water for the people. But it’s not
everything!
The company helps to provide a safe birth and they also help to prevent
bullying.
And it’s all started with a shoe, which was inspired by Argentinian farmers’
footwear…
